How Non-Negotiable works
1. Build your first wheel
When you first join, we'll ask you to rate six areas of your life:
- Movement
- Nourish
- Mind
- Relationships
- Growth
- Recovery
This creates your first Life Balance Wheel and provides a snapshot of where things stand today.
You'll then:
- Choose the areas you'd like to focus on
- Select a few non-negotiables
- Choose the reasons that matter most to you
Examples might include better energy, less stress or improved sleep.
2. Choose your non-negotiables
Non-negotiables are the small actions that help you feel your best.
Examples include:
- Going for a walk
- Drinking more water
- Reading for 20 minutes
- Calling a friend
- Having a screen-free hour
You can choose from the library or create your own. We recommend starting with just 3-5 non-negotiables.
3. Check in each day
Your dashboard shows:
- Your Life Balance Wheel
- Today's non-negotiables
- Your focus areas
- Promises kept
- Balance Score
Simply tick off the things you've completed. Every completed habit is a promise kept to yourself.
4. Daily, weekly and monthly habits
Not everything needs to happen every day. Non-Negotiable supports:
Daily
Examples: Walk, Read, Drink water
Weekly
Examples: Gym session, Yoga class, Family dinner
Monthly
Examples: Date night, Review finances, Day in nature
The app automatically shows you what is due today.
5. Make it your own
You can update your non-negotiables at any time. You can:
- Add new habits
- Pause habits
- Delete habits
- Change schedules
- Update your focus areas
Life changes and your non-negotiables can change too.
6. Watch your wheel evolve
Your wheel isn't static.
As you keep promises to yourself, the wheel gradually evolves to reflect where you've invested your attention.
Over time you'll start to see:
- Areas that are thriving
- Areas that need attention
- How your balance changes from month to month
7. Weekly review
Each week you'll be invited to pause and reflect. You'll see:
- Your current wheel
- Your strongest areas
- Areas that received less attention
- A simple reflection question
There are no scores to chase and no pressure to be perfect. The goal is awareness, not perfection.
8. Monthly review
Once a month you'll be invited to review your wheel. You'll:
- Reflect on the month
- Re-rate each life area
- Review your focus areas
- Reset your intentions for the month ahead
Think of it as turning the page rather than starting over.
9. Your history
Your history shows how your wheel has evolved over time. Compare:
- A month ago
- Last week
- Today
The goal isn't to do more. The goal is to build a life that feels good.

Do I need to choose my habits every day?
No. Your non-negotiables run on a schedule and the app automatically shows what's due each day.
Can I change my focus areas?
Yes. Your focus areas can be updated whenever life changes.
Can I create my own habits?
Absolutely. The library is there to inspire you, but your non-negotiables should reflect what matters most to you.
What if I miss a day?
Nothing happens. Non-Negotiable isn't about perfection. It's about returning to the things that help you feel your best.
